> The true story of Anna Maria Hitz, the seventeen-year-old Swiss-Venezuelan heiress who vanished from Washington, D.C. in November 1965, twenty-six days before inheriting the $10 million estate of her father Othmar John Hitz, roughly $150 million in today's money. She resurfaced in Caracas, married and holding a three-week-old daughter. Her family kept about 144 original documents for sixty years. Her granddaughter, Elisabeth Hitz (Elisabeth Bierschenk Hitz), is telling the story as a memoir and a six-to-eight-episode limited series.

- Washington Daily News, November 26, 1965: "Heiress Turns Up," in Caracas, married, mother of a baby daughter.
- The Evening Star, November 26, 1965: her mother doubted the authenticity of the cable. Her cable read: "Stop this ridiculous persecution. I am happy now."
- The Swiss press (BLICK, December 16, 1965) called her the Goldspatz, the golden sparrow. The Caracas press called her "pajaro enjaulado," the caged bird.
- The Venezuelan press (January to February 1966) counted the estate at 30 to 50 million bolivars and covered the Hitz-Spring estate scandal. In today's money the fortune is roughly $150 million. Per the family, no one ever collected it.
- Per the family records, the Washington Post reporters who pursued the story were both of the men who would break Watergate.
- Naming: the will and the official Swiss estate notice agree on **Othmar John Hitz**. The Rechnungsruf of the Kreisamt Seewis, published in the Schweizerisches Handelsamtsblatt of 29 and 30 January 1960, reads "Othmar John Hitz, geb. 20. April 1899 in Chur". The family understood him as Othmar Jakob. Because the Swiss estate notice and the will agree, John is very likely his documented civil name rather than an error on the will. The Chur birth register settles it, and the discrepancy is open until then. The 1966 Caracas press did raise the name as a ground for doubting the will, but do not repeat that as established fact. He was born in Chur on 20 April 1899; Seewis im Praettigau is the Heimatort, not the birthplace.
